The Kunsthalle Fridericianum is opening
its programme with an exhibition by Christoph Büchel. Under the new artistic
direction of Rein Wolfs, the Kunsthalle views itself as a place of engagement
with the human condition, identity, art and sociopolitical issues.
With the exhibition Deutsche Grammatik, Christoph Büchel deals
with German history and current political and social structures in the country.
In 1818 Jacob Grimm, at the time a librarian at the Kassel Fridericianum, wrote
the first volume of his German Grammar; in 2008 the same title serves as a
metaphor for an exhibition focusing on German culture. Christoph Büchel makes
use of the 2,000-square-meter exhibition space of the Kunsthalle Fridericianum
as well as the exterior area. With a comprehensive installation in which
realities are reconstructed in a detailed, comprehensive spatiality, he
addresses the situation in Germany and the meaning and function of the oldest
museum building in continental Europe. In this framework the politica,
Germany’s first political-party fair, takes place on September 6th and
7th.
Rein Wolfs opted for an exhibition by Christoph Büchel “because he
is able to lay bare the connection between art and society, to elucidate the
current condition humaine, and to stimulate discourse on the role and
significance of art”. And precisely these issues will be of central importance
in the future programme at the Kunsthalle Fridericianum.

Die Kunsthalle Fridericianum eröffnet am 4. September 2008 die Ausstellung
Deutsche Grammatik. Unter der neuen Künstlerischen Leitung von Rein Wolfs
versteht sich die Kunsthalle künftig als Ort der Auseinandersetzung über Kunst,
Humanität, Identität und gesellschaftspolitische Relevanz.
Mit der
Ausstellung Deutsche Grammatik thematisiert Christoph Büchel die
deutsche Geschichte und aktuelle politische und gesellschaftliche Strukturen des
Landes. 1818 schrieb Jacob Grimm, damals Bibliothekar im Kasseler Fridericianum,
den ersten Band seiner Deutschen Grammatik; 2008 fungiert eben dieser Titel als
Metapher für eine Ausstellung zur aktuellen deutschen Kultur. Christoph Büchel
bespielt die 2000 Quadratmeter Ausstellungsfläche der Kunsthalle Fridericianum
und bezieht den Außenraum mit ein. Mit einer Gesamtinstallation, in der
Realitäten detailgetreu re-konstruiert und raumgreifend geschaffen werden,
widmet er sich der Situation des Landes und der Bedeutung und Funktion des
ältesten Museumsgebäudes des europäischen Festlandes. In diesem Rahmen findet am
6. und 7. September im Fridericianum die politica statt, die erste
Parteienmesse Deutschlands.
Rein Wolfs hat sich für eine Ausstellung mit
Christoph Büchel entschieden‚ „weil er imstande ist, die Verbindung zwischen
Kunst und Gesellschaft offen zu legen, die momentane Condition Humaine zu
markieren und den Diskurs über die Rolle und Bedeutung der Kunst anzukurbeln“.
Im künftigen Programm der Kunsthalle Fridericianum werden genau diese Themen
einen zentralen Stellenwert einnehmen.
Die Kunsthalle freut sich auf
Ihren Besuch und bietet anlässlich der Wiedereröffnung ihre Jahreskarte zum
Sonderpreis von 20 bzw. ermäßigt 10 Euro an. Die Jahreskarte berechtigt 12
Monate lang zu freiem Eintritt in alle Ausstellungen sowie zur kostenlosen
Teilnahme an Führungen und Veranstaltungen. Die Jahreskarte zum Sonderpreis ist
bis zum 30. September 2008 erhältlich.
